I anticipate this is another bullshit attempt by TmpgEnc to gauge more money out of the users than what the product is worth. 3.0 Express did very little on top of 2.5 other than not crash all the time It accepted AC3 if you paid even more for the plug-in. (Gouge, gouge.) The XDVD encoding was nothing that couldn't be done by manipulation of the GOP in version 2.5. OK it handled AC3 for the $38 upgrade plus buying the $30 plug-in on top of that.

In fact the TmpgEnc Editor was a revised edition of the MPG Tools that had been included in 2.5 (and never worked worth a crap anyway). So they removed it from 3.0 and made it a separate program to gouge us for another $40 bucks. Other Programs have AC3 support native already.

So if we already have 3.0 Express and AC3 plug-in, what more is Tsunami offering for the money? Tsunami’s upgrades have been small for the major money. No transitions, no effects, etc. Other programs do a smart rendering too. Other programs are much faster (Magix, Pinnacle, Ulead, Roxio, and others) also having good quality.

By the time I have all of the upgrades, and a chunk of that price for what didn't work right in the first place, now TmpgEnc will 'upgrade' again! It does a good job. But, I believe TmpgEnc is just making an excuse for an upgrade to get more money.

If you haven't started sinking money into this bottomless pit, put the same amount of cash in something good that does more. And I like 3 Xpress w/AC3 plug-in. OTOH I would never use it to encode to Xvid/Divx. I only use it to encode to NTSC DVD. For me the results are fine and I can run it in batch mode overnight to encode and then the next evening use to author.

The Autosize to target works for me. The add many clips to become one output Mpeg file works for me. One other thing I like to preview and be sure the audio will be in sync before encoding. That let me find a problem in one file and split the file and use the sound adjustment to resync before encoding. If 2.5 crashed for you, gotta be something funky in your system, Never saw it crash here and I used it extensively before switching to 3 Xpress. I still use 2.5 for quick things I do not need AC3 for.

And the AC3 plug-in wasn't that bad since it is a buy once and use in TDA and Xpress. Only they stupid internet activation keep me to not buying it. The internet activation required every month. On another hand thats very effective against software pirates. It's a very minor inconvenience to the pirates.

Most of them get a pre-cracked/patched version anyway, so it's usually more of a major inconvenience to legitimate users. Brings to mind the whole MS WGA junk that tells you that your store-bought copy of XP is pirated yep.the only people who suffer from 'anti-piracy' measures are the people who legitimately bought the software. I'll admit I used to download copyrighted music all day long for free. When I decided to start doing it legitimately I was more than a little ticked off and how I had to wait for my pc to 'call home' every time I wanted to play a song.and if I dared bring it to another computer I'd better be ready to fill out a page of information to verify i am who i am.
