I downloaded this software into my son's computer about 1 year ago. It has basically destroyed his hard drive. I cannot delete it (even with my password which they have NOW changed apparently?). I have called this company twice.I have emailed. My last step was I filed a oomplaint to the BBB.
I won't say what my next step is. I have tried everything to remove this from his computer. We are now in the process of buying a new harddrive because there is nothing else left. If you go to cybersitter there are TONS of complaints regarding this software. Oddly enough, they do not respond from the company to you. If anyone here (since CNET suggests this software) has any suggestions. All help would be appreciated.
One word of advice, if you do not have Cybersitter, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS onto your oomputer. No Bs Day Trading Rapidshare Library. To say its been a nightmare, is mile.
Since you can't view their page about Cybersitter and other Censorware. How to disable CYBERsitter 2000: Andrew shares the following tips for disabling CYBERsitter 2000. This procedure disables CS2000 on a session-by-session basis (e.g. Until you reset the computer or change users). 1) click start~run and type regedit, then press enter. This will open the registry editor.
2) navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet Control SecurityProviders. 3) delete the key 'net98'. You are now filter-free. (note: this must be done every time you start windows or change users.) This procedure disables the censorware permanently (e.g. Remains disabled if you reboot the computer, change users, etc.) 1) run regedit. 2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Run. 3) delete any instances of 'C2K' You will probably need to restart the computer for the above to take effect.
There is other methods to use but for older versions of Cybersitter. Let us know if the above works for you and if you also want to view or try the older versions' method. Q Can you tell me how to uninstall CYBERsitter?
-------------------------------------------------------------- A We cannot tell you how to uninstall CYBERsitter through a web site or newsgroup, or even by telephone. One of our primary goals with CYBERsitter is to make it secure, and resistant to unauthorized or malicious uninstalling/hacking. CYBERsitter has a built in uninstall function. This is the only way CYBERsitter can be uninstalled. The uninstall process is fully described in the CYBERsitter 'Help' files. If you are authorized to access CYBERsitter, you will be able to look up the uninstall procedure yourself.
If you contact our tech support department by e-mail with uninstall questions, we will not answer the e-mail. We have no way of validating who you are and that you are indeed authorized to make changes to the installation. Note: DO NOT try to uninstall CYBERsitter using a third party 'Uninstaller' utility.
This could lead to permanent damage to your computer and may require you to reinstall Windows completely. Cannot delete it (even with my password which they have NOW changed apparently?).
'They' do not change your password as that is something YOU, the installer and administrator, set yourself. Even if you are the legitimate admin of the program and have just forgot the password there is no reason to 'have to replace the hard drive' because the program has not damaged it in any way and a simple format and re-installation of the OS would be all that was necessary. ODaniel: I beg to differ with you but they did change the password. I've only had one password and its kept in a book. When you contact Cybersitter, they state they will resend you your password for $10? We did not lose our pw, I have my password and my serial number but they still want to charge you for my own password? If you go to cybersitter help you will find dozens of folks that have been in the same boat as myself.
This is not a one time incident. Many folks have been locked out by their own password and most others refuse to pay again for it. As far as my son's hard drive, I don't think you get it.
It has locked up almost 80% of his entire system. We cannot hardly get to any thing on his computer because we are locked out by cybersitter. Heck, we couldn't even get to the link for the suggestion on how to fix it due to CS!::;blink;::: At this point, downloading a third party 'Uninstaller' utility program would be an improvement over the computers current state. To the poster who wrote out all of the help information, I thank you. I spent at least an hour on it Monday but I will go back and try again this afternoon. Keep your fingers crossed. Please reboot your computer, start tapping F8, until you can get into the DOS Screen (Black Screen), once you do, PLEASE scroll down until you see the following: 'Last Known Good Configuration', PLEASE click on that and then follow the instructions, which probably would be to reboot your computer.
Hopefully it will take your computer back to where it was working properly and then you can continue to remove that NASTY BUG from your computer on the instructions these nice people gave you. PLEASE post back with your results, THANKS. Hello, I personally have found Cybersitter to be a great product- it comes very close to doing what I would like it to. Download Blur Song 2 320 Kbps Converter there. Keep in mind as a computer technician, I have extremely high even demanding expectations from software.
Edward O'Daniel- is the only one with legitimate advice here. Donna Buanaventura's first post it incorrect, this will most likely disable all internet access. Her second post is correct- see reinstallation.
Kabeer09's advice is incorrect- the web page he's linked to says it is recommended only for certain Microsoft products. Zermatt's advice is a waste of time- this is only helpful to recover from errors that have just been made. It is entirely possible some of the problems you're running into are because attempts to bypass the software can corrupt Windows. Cybersitter only affects Internet access. Any program which does not require internet access is unaffected by Cybersitter. There may be something else going on. It sounds like you've spent far more time and effort than the $10 was worth.
It is possible some of the attempts to bypass the software have corrupted the password, but I have no idea how likely this is. If this is the case reinstalling the operating system and all hardware from scratch is the best bet. Before doing that be sure to save any and all license keys, which are sometime different from serial numbers, to any software you value especially, backing up all your important files and if possible back up the entire hard drive first.
As to Cybersitter changing the password, I highly doubt it. I have submitted help requests myself and asked them for password information. In my version, they did have an alternate password mechanism, but to the best of my knowledge that was a second password & not a password change. It is possible someone else has somehow gotten into the computer either by finding the password and changing it themselves or using the remote administration feature. However, having done technical support for 4 years, the far more common problem was forgotten, misplaced, incorrect passwords. As to other versions of their software, resetting the password will require finding your license key that Cybersitter gave you when you installed it. I had a very similar problem - installed Cybersitter on Windows 7, didn't work, so I 'uninstalled.'
For ayear, I suspected that Cybersitter was still 'protecting' me from allsorts of innocent websites, including Toontown and Piratesonline, but couldn't prove it. Finally, today I tried to go to www.sysinternals.com and instead I got redirected to a cybersitter webpage that told me I wasn't protected from porn!!!
That did it, so I did some digging. I was able to fix a number of longtime problems by renaming my c: windows system32 lspcs.dll to lcpcs.cybersitter (any name would do, and I didn't delte because I wasn't sure what I might be breaking. I do know that that dll does not appear on my other windows 7 box.
) Note that you'll probanly have to boot into safe mode to do this. Your mileage may vary.
