I would recommend Kohler to all that will be purchasing a generator, the most important thing you should consider is the electric it is producing is clean, kohler is, the other brand is not. Im installing the unit now so its a bit early to review but I will update later after some run time. I selected this unit based on Consumer Reports testing, the reputation of Kohler generators from commercial installers, and my own personal experience with Kohler engines.

I personally know two people whose non Kohler WHGs failed during Florida's recent hurricane induced black outs. One was catastrophic stator failure requiring replacement purchase of an entirely new WHG. His unit was 8 years old, always contracted for maintenance, and had very little run time. Both blocks are of the same materials, but the Kohler is heavier which in my opinion should withstand the heat of using the generator for extended periods of time. The second difference is regarding starting power. The Kohler provides detailed information on inrush current capabilities while Generac and their tech support will tell you nothing. Generac will not provide and specifications on their performance.
What are they hiding and why? If Generac is so reputable, then why will they not provide specific information on the performance of their product. I'm sorry, but forcing you to go through a dealer to obtain recommendations does not help the consumer.
